What have I been reading lately, What I suppose around twitter and why blogging is the best.

Filed under: Finance Information @ 2:47 pm

I have been finding a lot of great new blogs lately. I am of the opinion the jury is still out about all the twitter bustle. I still savour blogs and have a huge number in my feed reader.

The key part of blogs is that you can find hidden jewels, and they are from individuals that actually like to put pen to paper.

Sure you can notice some chill individuals on twitter. But, seriously, twitter is for individuals with attention defecit disorder or who dont like to write normal posts. Yes, scores of people twitter and also blog, and those souls are cool by me, but I am perpetually and everlastingly a blog devotee.

Blogs drive the author to actually articluate their judgement. Twitter however merely allows for you to say it. Call me old fashioned but I consider there is a point where smaller is no longer easier. We have been obsessed with miniturization for so long. Specially when it comes to technology. Surely there has to be a point where we figure substance counts. Value matters. What do you suppose?

Perhaps the proper answer dwells in balance. And compromise. You cannot push people to have marrow and not be shallow. But, too possibly you need to force the neo libral hippies to lighten up a bit too?

Ready to Sign that Lease Agreement?

Filed under: Finance Information @ 7:43 am

Is Signing that Lease Agreement Right for You?

The real estate market is booming across the United States, especially in select areas of California as well as Las Vegas. Even the sleepy town of Boise, Idaho is experiencing record breaking primary residential development. Where ever you happen to live, you have probably noticed it’s not so easy to get into that coveted house you have always dreamed of, despite the favorable mortgage rates. So what should you do?

Lessons Learned from the Past

With such uncertainty around the real estate market, perhaps it is best to stay away from owning your own property. Many so called experts predict the housing market in the US has finally reach bubble status, and expect that bubble to burst in the near future. They may have submitted their predictions a bit early, but their advice should be considered. If we learned anything from the stock market bubble and subsequent crash of 2000, we realized frequently a conservative approach to investing serves us well when uncertainty surrounds the market.

Protect yourself and consider the advantages of renting or leasing versus buying your own home. A renter assumes far less risk by signing his/her name to a lease agreement than when closing on a house. Typically a rental agreement locks you into a contract for a short period of time, relatively speaking, during which the rental rate is locked as well. Such a contract can protect you from the downswings of the real estate market, especially the volatility frequently demonstrated by adjustable rate mortgages. Granted, as a renter you don’t stand to gain any equity in the house should the market turn up. However, you also don’t expose yourself to the violent downswings in housing values wrought by an oversaturated market. Should you buy a house now and a year later need to move to pursue a new job opportunity, what happens when your realize those inflated prices you paid for your house are not so inflated anymore, and suddenly you owe more on your house than it is worth? That is called negative equity, and instinctively you realize no good can come of such a situation. Hence renting offers flexibility, both financially and physically speaking.

Avoiding the Headaches of Ownership

By agreeing only to rent the dwelling, you manage to avoid many of the disadvantages associated with owning a house. Normally the landlord is responsible for general maintenance of the flat. Many home owners are quick to offer their stories of frustration, disappointment, and even anger when things go wrong in the house. Pipes burst, flooding occurs, air conditioning units break during the scorching summer days of July, and heating systems fail in the dead of winter. All these things can and will happen, setting homeowners back considerably. Thus, as a renter you can avoid many of the major financial investments owners must make to maintain the comfort and livability provided by a dwelling. Agreeing to a lease agreement helps mitigate the risks of living in a home or apartment.

Weighing your Options

A rental or lease agreement can offer many advantages to those of you looking for a place to live. Ultimately, each individual must decide what is right for them. Some are more than willing to bear the risk inherent to the housing market because they have a strong positive cash flow and are in a position to endure the twists and turns of the market.

Don’t be afraid to weigh your options and consider the risks of owning versus renting. For many, playing the game conservatively and waiting for housing prices to come back down to Earth will prove to be a successful strategy. There is no shame in signing that lease agreement, living in an apartment for a year or two before moving on to that house you have wanted so badly.

Top 10+ Ways to Jumpstart your New Year’s Finances!

Filed under: Finance Information @ 7:25 am

Of course, these don’t have to be done in any particular order!
Just pick one or two that particularly apply to your situation.

* Create your 2005 filing system. This might include new file folders, a new box to hold them or space in a filing cabinet with easy access. Mp>

* Set up a folder to collect all the important 2004 tax documents which will be arriving soon. Sure to arrive at your house are W-2s, 1099s, mortgage statements, etc.

* Set up an appointment with your tax professional early so you get the appointment of your choice. This also gives you a deadline to get your information ready! If you’re self-employed, the next quarterly estimated tax payment will be due on January 15.

* Review last year’s investments especially in your 401(k), IRA’s etc. Find out what financial planning resources your company or 401(k) plan administrator offers and set up an appointment to talk to them. For non-company portfolios, talk to your investment advisor. You have until April 15 to make contributions to IRA type accounts (check with your tax preparer for eligibility).

* What about Quicken or Microsoft Money? If you don’t use software to balance your checkbook, pay your bills and keep track of your savings and investments, this is a great time of the year to get started. My personal favorite is Quicken and for small businesses, you might consider Quicken Home and Business. If you are a small business with Payroll needs, check out QuickBooks.

* Medical Insurance reimbursements. If you haven’t submitted all your medical bills to your insurance provider, now is the time to do so.

* Will and Estate Planning. No one likes to think about dying, but the best thing you can do for your family is to make sure they are taken care of by creating a will and making sure you have adequate life insurance. Think how easily you’ll sleep knowing you have provided for your family even if you are no longer there.

* Speaking of insurance… If you haven’t reviewed your health or home and auto policies in the last couple of years you might find you can save money and/or have better coverage. For example, if you still have a $250 deductible (which was my first deductible in 1979!), you will probably save by increasing it to $500 or $1000. Try to set aside some of your savings for deductibles in case you need them.

* Create your own Anti-Emergency Fund! We all know those car and home repairs, school fees, medical expenses and vacations are going to happen. Why not determine how much you’ll need and save 1/12 of it each month? To read more go to: http://www.phelps-creek.com/archives/Anti-Emergency.htm.

* Holiday Bonus or Money Gifts If you received a financial gift this holiday season, hold on to it for at least 30 days while you decide what you really want to spend it on. All too often financial windfalls are spent before they even arrive. Consider dividing it into thirds: 1/3 to the past, 1/3 to the present and 1/3 to the future. Past might include paying down debt, present could be something you need or want now and future could be retirement, college savings, or a special vacation

* Financial Goals for next year Think about where you want to be next year at this time financially. If you want to save $1000, put aside $2.74 each day and you’ll be there! Break down your financial goals into monthly, weekly and daily amounts and watch how quickly your savings will grow. Read more about it at: http://www.phelps-creek.com/archives/PDQFactor.htm.

Happy New Year!!!!!

What I Learned About Money from Million Dollar Baby

Filed under: Finance Information @ 5:07 am

In Clint Eastwood’s award-winning movie, Million Dollar Baby, we see a positive, respectable, hard-working young woman physically destroyed when her dirty-dealing opponent lands a sucker punch after the bell.

It occurs to me that the same thing can happen with investments. The admirable fighter inside you tries to make your financial dreams come true. That’s the inner voice that tells you to work hard and invest smart. Your opponent is the part of you ruled by your emotions. Those emotions look for every opportunity to land a sucker punch and bring you down.

When I first met Bill, for example, he was worth $10,000,000, yet he was miserable. Because he’d grown up during the depression, he was convinced that he was always one step away from being broke, hungry and homeless. Keep in mind that Bill was taking only $150,000 a year from his $10 million nest egg. If you do the math, you’ll see that his withdrawal rate was barely 1.5%. So Bill really didn’t have to worry about money … but he worried anyway, and he was ruled by his fear and greed.

Because Bill was convinced that he was going to run out of money, he continued to make high-risk investments in the hopes of having more. He often lost a great deal of money with these chancy ventures, and this behavior made his fear a self-fulfilling prophecy. As his losses grew, his emotional need to make up for those losses grew, too. He took ever-greater risks and continued to dig himself into a miserable hole. It was a classic emotional smack-down.

Others dance the opposite direction. People who suffer great investment losses understandably become gun-shy. They are afraid of getting pounded again, so they swear off investing foreverand miss out on securing their financial future.

Are your emotions beating up your investments? Do you take risky chances for no good reason? Or is your anxiety making you afraid to come out of your corner fighting? Let me tell you something. In the arena of investments, your emotions are always in the back room working the speed bag just waiting for the chance to floor you. You need an edge if you want to stay in the ring.

How would you like to have the financial equivalent of Muhammad Ali as your trainer? Here are a few tips that can give you that kind of an edge.

First, recognize that you’ll never totally eliminate emotions from your financial decisions. You can’t knock them out. Second, know that you can neutralize them.

How? Remember the trainer’s advice: Always protect yourself.

One way to keep your guard up is to use stop-losses on all your investments. If you’re not familiar with a stop-loss, it’s a simple tool you use to reduce risk. Let’s say you buy a stock at $50, and you are convinced the stock is going to $80. Put a stop of $45 on the position. If the stock goes all the way, the stop doesn’t hurt you. But if you’re wrong, and the stock hits the mat, the stop-loss becomes very important.

Once the stock drops to a price of $45 or less, the position is sold. What happens if the stock later renews its strength and climbs back to $80? Too bad. You sold at $45, and you no longer hold the position. This is the downside to using stop-loss orders.

What happens if the stock continues its downward spiral and falls to $15? You don’t care because you sold the position at $45. Could this happen? It happens every day. Just ask people who bought tech stocks in the early part of 2000.

You can effectively use stop-loss orders to limit your downside risk on all your stock and mutual fund investments. If you do this, you’ll be able to go the 10 rounds without getting knocked silly by your emotions.

Bankruptcy Lawyer: Your Final Solution When Running Out Of Options

Filed under: Finance Information @ 2:10 am

Before rushing to a lawyer to assist you in filing for bankruptcy, you have to make sure what is bankruptcy and what is not. Only then will you have to find a bankruptcy lawyer that you can work with in filing your case. Many people rush to file for bankruptcy thinking that it will solve their financial problems. The opposite is often true.

Declaring your business to be legally bankrupt, only mean that you have done everything you could and there is no way for recovery. It means being deep in debt that it will already be impossible for you to sustain the business.

There are kinds and variations to bankruptcy and the legal process will depend very much on where you are coming from but the purpose is the same. Bankruptcy cases will take years to resolve. The court will determine what debts do not have to be repaid and what will be directly deducted from your income.

In the interim, credit lines will be closed to you. Your credit history will be tainted and no credit institution will want to do business with you. Back taxes that you owe will still have to be paid and obligations will still be enforced like alimony and child support.

When there is no resolution that is possible, finding a good bankruptcy lawyer will then be the only recourse.

A good bankruptcy lawyer should be someone you can be comfortable talking with. Someone you can trust and someone who has displayed competence in handling bankruptcy. This is very important as communication between you and the lawyer must be based on trust. There have been so many instances when the client holds back on information that he thinks is not so significant only to learn later on that the piece of information that was withheld posed additional complication to the case. Withholding information from your bankruptcy lawyer pose problems where non existed before. Bankruptcy lawyers can only help the client to the extent of the knowledge that the lawyer has. It is crucial then that the client works with the lawyer. This is in the first place the client’s future that is at stake.

Do not hesitate to interview the lawyer prior to retaining him. Ask the lawyer questions and a good lawyer must answer you in a language that you can understand. If you don’t, do not be afraid to clarify statements that could be ambiguous to you. Find out a bankruptcy lawyer that already has an extensive experience in handling bankruptcy cases. Whenever possible find a bankruptcy lawyer who is a specialist. Avoid the generalist, as they may not be able to help you as much.

If you feel uncomfortable talking with a particular bankruptcy lawyer, find another one. You can visit the local bar association to find out their recommendation.

When you visit your bankruptcy lawyer, bring a list of all the creditors that you owe, including payments to personal loans that you are not left behind and a list of all your assets and liabilities. The more information you provide the bankruptcy lawyer, the better and more accurate the recommendations he will give you. Remember that lawyers can only work as good as the information that you provide.

Cooperate well in giving your lawyer the data regarding your case because you are in the best position to give those to him. You also will be the person that will either suffer or benefit from the outcome.

How To Read Forex Charts: 5 Things You Must Know

Filed under: Finance Information @ 1:33 am

Learning the basic skills in forex, such as how to read forex charts, is really important.

This is because once you have this vital skill under your belt, it will be a lot easier and quicker when the time comes for you to learn and practice an actual forex trading system.

By the time you finish this article, you’ll learn how to read forex charts, as well as know the pitfalls that can occur when reading them, especially if you haven’t traded forex before.

Firstly, let’s revise the basics of a forex trading as this relates directly to how to reade forex charts.

Each currency pair is always quoted in the same way. For example, the EURUSD currency pair is always as EURUSD, with the EUR being the base currency, and the USD being the terms currency, not the other way round with the USD first. Therefore if the chart of the EURUSD shows that the current price is fluctuating around 1.2155, this means that 1 EURO will buy around 1.2155 US dollars.

And your trade size (face value) is the amount of base currency that you’re trading. In this example, if you want to buy 100 000 EURUSD, you’re buying 100 000 EUROs.

Now let’s have a look at the 5 important steps on how to read a forex chart:

1. If you buy the currency pair, that is, you’re long the position, realise that you’re looking for the chart of that currency pair to go up, to make a profit on the trade. That is, you want the base currency to strengthen against the terms currency.

On the other hand if you sell the currency pair to short the position, then you’re looking for the chart of that currency pair to go down, to make a profit. That is, you want the base currency to weaken against the terms currency.

Pretty simple so far.

2. Always check the time frame displayed. Many trading systems will use multiple time frames to determine the entry of a trade. For example, a system may use a 4 hour and a 30 minute chart to determine the overall trend of the currency pair by using indicators such as MACD, momentum, or support and resistance lines, and then a 5 minute chart to look for a rise from a temporary dip to determine the actual entry.

So ensure that the chart you’re looking at has the correct time frame for your analysis. The best way to do this is to set up your charts with the correct time frames and indicators on them for the system you’re trading, and to save and reuse this layout.

3. On most forex charts, it is the BID price rather than the ask price that’s displayed on the chart. Remember that a price is always quoted with a bid and an ask (or offer). For example, the current price of EURUSD may be 1.2055 bid and 1.2058 ask (or offer). When you buy, you buy at the ask, which is the higher of the 2 prices in the spread, and when you sell, you sell at the bid, which is the lower of the two prices.

If you use the chart price to determine an entry or exit, realise that when you place an order to sell when the chart price is say 1.330, then this is the price that you’ll sell at assuming no slippage.

If on the other hand, you place an order to buy when the chart price is the same price, then you’ll actually buy at 1.3333. A forex system will often determine whether your orders will be placed simply according to the chart price or whether you need to add a buffer when buying or selling.

Also note that on many platforms, when you’re placing stop orders (to buy if the price rises above a certain price, or sell when the price falls below a certain price) you can select either “stop if bid” or “stop if offered”.

4. Realise that the times shown on the bottom of forex charts are set to the particular time zone that the forex provider’s charts are set to, be it GMT, New York time, or other time zones.

It’s handy to have a world clock available on your computer desktop in order to convert the different time zones. This is important when you’re trading major economic announcements.

You’ll need to convert the time of an announcement to your local time, and the chart time, so you’ll know when the announcement is going to happen, and therefore when you need to trade.

5. Finally, check whether the times on your forex charts corresponds to when the candle opens or when the candle closes. Your charting software may be different to someone else’s in this way.

The reason I mention this, is that if you need to trade major economic announcements, either by entering a trade based on the movements that happen after the announcement, or to exit a trade before the announcement in avoid getting stopped out during it, then you need to be precise (to the minute!) as these trades are performed according to what happens at the 1 minute immediately after the announcement, not the candle afterwards!

So there you have it.

You now have the 5 essential keys to how to properly read forex charts, which will help you to avoid the common mistakes which many forex beginners make when looking at charts, and which will speed up your progress when you’re looking at forex charting packages, and forex trading systems that you want to trade!

Now that you know this, practice looking at forex charts with each of these 5 points in mind.

So get to it!

Swing Stock Trading

Filed under: Finance Information @ 11:38 am

Swing stock trading is a short-term method in which stocks are held for a few days or weeks. This trading style lies somewhere between the day trading and long-term investments. A day trader may hold on to a stock only for a few minutes or hours, whereas the long-term investor may hold the stocks for months. Swing stock trading depends on the minor variations in the stock prices. It is never dependent on the market index. Profits through swing stock trading are earned irrespective of the market conditions.

A swing trader capitalizes on the predictable constant market imbalances, which the day trader or long-term investor may not care about. He/she values the short-term momentum and price patterns of the stock, rather than its fundamental value. In swing stock trading, the risks are lower. There is less competition from the big time investors. A person engaged in swing stock trading does not wait for the perfect timing, when stocks may reach sky-high heights or rock bottom. He/she simply trades them when there is a significant price fluctuation. By ignoring the perfect timing, though, the trader may miss an opportunity for earning huge profits. Although swing stock trading may not guarantee the large profits earned by long-term investors, it assures small profits at short intervals.

Swing stock trading is best suited for the newcomers in the stock market. The low-risk and quick returns prove attractive for the beginners. Even the medium and top level players in the market can occasionally leverage on this trading style to earn some respectable profits. Moreover, swing stock trading is a good motivator for the traders due to the quick results that one can get within a few days. A trader wishing to succeed in this trading system must choose the right market and the right stocks. Swing trading cannot be applied in a market where the stock prices are rising or falling rapidly. Here, the stock prices tend to go in one direction without fluctuating. This kind of market is more suitable for the long-term investors. A swing trader must deal with stocks that are actively traded in most stock exchanges. These shares usually belong to firms that have large market capitalization.

Swing Trading provides detailed information on Swing Trading, Swing Trading Strategy, Swing Stock Trading, Swing Trading Systems and more. Swing Trading is affiliated with Option Stock Trading.

How to Win the Forex Battle

Filed under: Finance Information @ 9:42 am

Every trading activity is in fact participating in a battle. Winning the battle is a matter of knowledge, skill and experience. If you miss any of those you are going to join the long line of losers. Some says that 95 to 99 percent of the traders are lining up on the loser’s side.

How to win the battle in the currency market? It is easy to answer that question, based on the above approach – prepare yourself for the battle. If you treat currency market activity as a hobby you’ll ultimately lose all investments there. If you treat it as a business you still may loose everything.

The correct approach is: consider each pressing of the Buy/Sell button as entering a battlefield. If you enter it without having a knowledge, skill and experience on how to win, you are destined to fail. You may have some lucky trades in the beginning, though. That, by the way, is the worst case scenario for the rookie in trading.

The earlier you get your “bad” lessons, the better for your overall experience. No mater how good you consider yourself prepared, after demo trading lessons, you have no idea of the forces ruling on the real market.

In fact the worst enemy you are going to face in the very beginning is not hiding behind the walls of the global currency trading centers. Your most dangerous foe is hiding deep inside of you. That enemy is so powerful that you will be amazed how quickly it will wash away all your carefully considered decision.

No one has been able to evade the force of that destructive power. No one can understand or realize that force unless it has been confronted face to face. Start trading with real money and you’ll face it too. Fear, Greed or Hope are some of the names of that power.

Fear forces you to sell near the bottom and buy near the top. Greed forces you to get out of the market prematurely. Hope will keep in the trade until you loose everything. Fear may save you but hope may wreck you completely. Greed will never make you rich.

It is easy to give advice to trade without emotions and use the logic, only. How you can achieve that if you never have been there. You need to go through that turmoil, pick up your loses due to your emotional decisions and than analyze.

Study all your “bad” trades, because they are the most precious gifts on the way to proficiency in trading. Growing as an experienced trader is possible only after getting your losses in the beginning. Then sit down and carefully study the lessons they brought to you.

One thing traders never want to do is to admit of being wrong. The market is a constantly changing and it demands flexibility in taking decision. That implies monitoring and constantly adjusting, changing your decision and action. When your logical analyzes suggest that you are wrong – get out, quickly.

Once you overcome the emotions, concentrate on developing your signature way of trading. You can start with following different advisors and system and picking from them the things you like. Demo trade and test your ideas until you find the trade system which is matching completely your personality.

Now, you have to go back to emotion in a controlled way. Every time your system suggests a trade look inside you and see how you feel about this trade. You feel bad – discard it. If you feel good – keep it.

Here comes the final step: Looking for the final approval sign before submitting the trade. Here is the time, where the mastership shows up. Your weapon is loaded, the target is clearly seen on the visor and the finger is on the trigger. You have to make that final exhale, get the target over the cross point and shoot it.

How much knowledge, skill, experience and patience you need to build within in order to reach that very final stage of trading proficiency? Only you’ll know that and only you can do it. The rest is just numbers in your bank account.

Building a fortune by trading currency is not a mirage in the desert of live. There are hundreds of traders who are making living of that business and you can do it too. Study all you can find on the net and follow the steps of the best if you want to win that battle.

FOREX Online System Trading- For Bigger Profits

Filed under: Finance Information @ 9:01 am

The rise of the Internet and cheap powerful computers has made FOREX online system trading a reality for any trader, novice or pro.

Now its possible for individual traders to manage their funds and target 30 – 50% annual compound growth.

The advantages of FOREX online system and how to choose a good one are outlined in this article.

Let’s first look at the advantages of currency system trading.

1. Emotions and trading

The major reason traders loose is they trade with out a specific method and let their emotions dictate their trading. They lack discipline and loose.

An online FOREX Trading system gives traders discipline, as good systems will run the big profitable trades and cut losers quickly to give great profit potential over the longer term.

2. Currencies trend

A system that is technical and trend following obviously needs trends to follow and this is where currencies are a great market to trade – They trend for long periods either up or down.

A Currency reflects the health of the underlying economy and as economic cycles, either expansion or decline last years so to do currency trends.

Any good FOREX online trading system will therefore be able to run these big trends for maximum profitability.

3. Effort to reward

The major advantage for many traders is the time system trading takes. If a system is automated, all traders need do each day is take the signals give them to their broker and that’s it.

Most good systems take as little as 30 minutes a day or less and this is a huge advantage for investors who want to trade for themselves and have limited time.

So what should you look for when choosing an online FOREX trading system?

Here is a checklist that will point you in the right direction

1.Make sure you understand the logic upon which the system is based. If you don’t understand why it works, you won’t have the discipline to follow it through inevitable periods of loses. So, buy a system where the logic is revealed in full and not a black box.

2.Look for a system that trades medium to longer term and avoid day trading systems. Day trading systems tend to fail because there is never enough profit in a day trade to cover losing trades and commission and slippage add up.

3.Choose a system with simple logic. It should only have a few rules or parameters. Keep in mind there is no correlation between how complicated a system is and how much money it makes. Simple systems work best, as they tend to be more robust in the face of ever changing market conditions

4.Look at the money management of the system. Keep in mind money management is the key to system trading success. A system without sensible money management is more than likely going to lose.

FOREX online trading systems can and do make traders great longer term gains.

Spend some time picking one and you will be well rewarded for your efforts.

Want Free Money? It’s Easier Than You Think!

Filed under: Finance Information @ 7:30 am

Copyright 2006 Jessica Roop

Start thinking of the stores you shop at often. What comes to mind? Is it Circuit City, Starbucks, Banana Republic, Sephora, Barnes & Noble? Undoubtedly most of us could easily come up with a list of ten to twenty, if not more.

I’m the kind of person who loves to save money. I’ve been doing something so simple for the past few years that has saved me hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars – I’d like to think of it as “free money”! It’s so easy, yet surprisingly few people take advantage of it.

You’re probably wondering what I do. It’s simple:

I purchase gift cards online for the stores I shop at most often at a discounted rate.

I mainly use eBay, but there are others like CertificateSwap.com and SwapAGift.com. A lot of people receive gift cards as presents but aren’t interested in the store or would prefer cash, so they list the cards online. Expect to usually pay 80 to 90 percent of face value, although some prices can be higher or lower depending on the popularity of the merchant. The way I see it is, if I’m going to spend the money at the store anyway, why not purchase a gift card and save a few dollars?

One method I have found to be quite useful in finding good deals is to go to the Gift Certificates category on eBay and search for “Buy it Now items” in the search options. I then sort the results by the most recently listed auctions. Some sellers underestimate the value of their gift cards, so they may put up a Buy it Now price that is lower than what the card would generally go for. You have to be at the right place at the right time to snatch up those deals, but it can be worth it! (Just to prove that it does happen – as I was writing this article, I was able to purchase a $100 gift certificate redeemable at hundreds of spas nationwide for only $50!)

One word of caution: as with any online purchase, be sure that you are purchasing from a reputable seller. Unfortunately scammers are out there, so do your homework on the seller before making a purchase.

I hope you are able to use this technique to save money like I have. It is one I plan on using for years to come!
